We will be moving to the Dhahran camp later this summer and I'm looking for a recommendation on what airline to use. My wife and I currently reside in Houston and that will serve as our base. We want to take the opportunity to travel and see the world while living in Saudi Arabia. Is there a recommendation on which airline to use that has a combination of good frequent flyer benefits, pricing, routes to cities throughout the world, etc? Appreciate a recommendation.

I've got a similar question, with regards to airline recommendations out of Europe. I was told that the preferred airlines are 1) KLM, 2) Qatar, 3) Emirates. Can anyone share their experiences with these airlines so far (business class)? Etihad and Lufthansa also seem to have good connections to Dammam. Any feedback on those two?

The Lufthansa flights I've taken (business) have the unfortunate slightly sloped beds, such that i always feel like I'm sliding toward my feet. United's BusinessFirst seats have lie-flat beds; they seem to be a little narrower than the Lufthansa ones, but I like them otherwise. I‘ve heard that Emirates is awesome (and seems to have lie-flat beds too), but my only shot at those is on an A380, where there are 100 business seats on the plane (too many to make me feel special).
Not to push United (particularly since they can't get you all the way to Dammam), but the upper deck seats (in the 747) rock; you feel secluded, and the window seats have a large stoe bin between the seat and fusilage.
My $0.02, for what it's worth.

Recently I traveled on British Airways and they were good.

From the research we've done, it sounds like Emirates, Qatar and KLM are held in high regard for their business class accommodations.

Have flown KLM business class into Dammam which is not bad but I prefer Lufthansa. I like to stop in Frankfurt to have a shower and relax in the lounge while waiting on the connection. Lufthansa being part of the Star Alliance is also a plus.
I have heard the service on Qatar Airways and Emirates is pretty good also.

I also heard United will let you bring in 3 dish barrel boxes. We are leaning towards Emirates or United. What does UA star alliance give you?

I can only speak about coming from US. You can bring as many boxes as you want on United if you are willing to pay for them ($200 each - if they are not overweight). What you can bring for free if you have business class ticket is 1 box/suitcase up to 70lbs and 1 up to 50lbs. After that you pay. You can go on the united website and use the online calculator by putting in your origin and destination and type of ticket and it will tell you what you are allowed free and what you have to pay for. This is for each ticket.

British Airways have good frequent flyer program. We always fly business using our miles for upgrades. Heathrow Terminal 5 lounge is great.

Wow! Did not know this. Do you know if it's still the case?

Go on the airline websites and check luggage allowances.
