Sorry to hear of your experience & best wishes for the next few months.
I am aware of another recent case of termination during the probationary period - I don't really want to go in to details but if I can offer any advice it would be this
1. Do not assume that your 90 day probationary period does not have any consequences (I agree this may be unfair as you spend a lot of time chasing up personal items such as ID, bank accounts etc) 2.Try to bank as much of the first few months salary & relocation payments as you can. This will help to give you a little bit of a cushion should termination happen. 3.There is a chance that your department plays no part in the interview process so if you feel you've been misplaced, you should speak up quite quickly whilst choosing your words carefully. 4.Speak with your supervisor as early as possible and on a regular basis to try and establish what you are expected to do. It is difficult to meet expectations if you're not sure what they are. 5.Don't assume that you can perform tasks here in the same way as you are used to elsewhere - it's a learning experience where you need an open mind. 6.Presentation skills are important so be prepared to sell yourself
Good luck to all

Yes I think it is becoming much more common now than it was, since this happened I have now heard of six this year already, this includes two from my department alone!
If I can add anything to the wise, well informed words above it would be, in the same order:-
1. Make sure you get some work assigned and keep the admin to a minimum, whatever can wait let it, this is your time to prove yourself first and foremost. I wasted four weeks while this was going on without work, my colleagues told me to relax its normal, BAD ADVISE, don’t relax you should aim to be working well and producing results before the end of your first week, if not let the management know why, if your supervisor seems uninterested or unavailable. You cannot prove yourself if you are not given anything to do!
2. I keep telling everyone here that you should save everything in the first 90 days; don’t buy cars, furniture or any items that is not absolutely essential. Peer pressure will temp you to make financial commitments but resist.
3. I don’t agree you should tell anyone if you are missed placed (it is very likely you will be), first priority is to work flat out to prove yourself in the area you are placed even if it’s wrong. If you really cannot do so where you are, then sometime in the second month let your senior management know, be cautious this could backfire - TREAD VERY CAREFULLY
4. Sure try and speak with your supervisor daily, I did but it didn’t help me much. Remember English will most likely not the their first language, try and do a course on basic Arabic and Tradition and Custom before you come over, it will help you.
5. Don’t assume anything, I did not but still came unstuck. You will get little to zero feedback even if you ask, if you don’t then you only have yourself to blame!
6. Presentation is everything, I was asked to do a Power Point presentation on a subject I was not familiar with to 100 plus people, including the Senior VP using a PA system! Make sure you are confident in presentational skills or take a course and include report writing. Even if you are technically strong it will do you no good if you are not well polished, it’s like a dog show for the first 90 days, present yourself like your job depends on it - it does.
Hope this has helped everyone, donations via PM’s to my benevolent fund :-)

Hi GB, I've been reading your entries intensely as I'm currently on the visa process (waiting for VIL from AOC UK). I'm really sorry to hear such news, and I believe it has opened our eyes much more, after similar case had taken place recently.
Can i ask if there is any effort being done by the correct dept to discuss this 90d extra probationary period with the HR? I'm pretty sure many things can be 'discussed' in KSA, but i do believe the right person or level in the 'correct' department should step in to help. If you can seek his cooperation, things might turn in your favour, unless you have decided enough is enough and put your energy on going back to UK.
Take care, Silvermoose

Sorry I have been offline for a few days while we are sorting out the repat administration, more on that later. Hope I have been absolutely clear; I wanted to stay and still do! HR has refused to let the other department have me on 90 days probation, even though I was totally happy for this to take place. They are sending me home purely on Company Policy and with no regard to a job being available and that the managers of the other department being very keen to take me on – I know it’s ridiculous. Many of my colleagues are saying its obvious I should have been in the other department from the start, such is life. I am concidering writing to the VP of the section but it will not do any good now of course, it may make me feel better however. Two of the six terminations definitely went from engineering, another was a dentist, will find out the positions of the other three if I can before I leave, another looks like he may have to go but cannot be sure yet again from engineering. This is a bad business – sorry but I need to do other things at the moment, I shall try and update you all better on the departure process in the next few days, hopefully before I leave for the UK .

Well we have our final exit visas now and we have our flights booked for Sunday. I have spoken to HR and they have confirmed that the other position was definitely on offer but it was Company Policy that prevented my reassignment, so it official I was a good boy, just unlucky! I have also written a letter to the VP yesterday and HR said this was the right thing to do under the circumstances, I will let you know if I get invited back, we have decided we would consider returning, some may think this strange under the circumstances but it’s not a bad Company just because it has ridged inflexible policies. On the repat front not bad really you get a reasonably generous allowance for taxi, travel and excess baggage plus business class flights and a shipment home. The only thing that is really unfair is the lack of pay while you are sorting out the exit visa, HR say they putting a recommendation that a week’s pay is added to the exit package, who knows how far that will get. And the most unfair things of all are of course the lack of flexibility in the ridged policies and the notice period!! Anyway will keep you all posted with any updates and let you know when we are back in the UK.

Goodluck with all your future endeavours. I have learnt one thing from you and that is to always keep a positive atude even when things are not going the way as one would want. I sure hope and know that you will land a better opportunity or who knows you might be back at Aramco. Best of luck and thanks for sharing with us.

It is a very good lesson and learn. Today I also got the offer with a different position. I send notice to recruiter to clarify my position over there.

Hi All, Even i got terminated, worked in RT refinery ROED deptt, got no warnings (which should be given on completion of 60 days). I got my "yellow slip" on the 89th day and termination notice on the same day. Right now, am in my home country (India), actively looking out for oppurtunities.
This happened to me even though i worked >10hrs. almost on a daily basis since i joined SA(17th Dec'14). I even produced results as per my Supervisor's expectations (he told me that even he is shocked to hear my termination notice). He did not have any problem with me on any front, be it my technical capabilities, my communication & presentation skills or my inter-personal skills. It was just because am from a different technology (>8 yrs worked as Fluidized Catalytic Cracker Unit tech service engineer in Reliance SEZ Refinery, India in steady state, pre-commissioning and commissioning, unit stabilization). RT refienry does not have an FCCU and since i's placed in NHT/CCR Platformer unit, am expected to deliver right from day 1. I requested to transfer me to Jeddah refinery which has an FCCU but it was rejected.
Anyways, wish everyone here all the best.
Warm regards.

What was the reason they gave you for the termination?
